This is usually not true.

Originally, an escape room was indeed a room you had to escape from. But that was over a decade ago. These days, the word escape stands for escaping reality.

Some escape rooms still create the illusion that you have to escape, but in reality, you can leave the room at any moment.

This is not true.

In an escape room, you need to solve puzzles to move forward. That’s pretty hard to do in complete darkness.

At DarkPark, it’s all about the experience. That means we sometimes dim the lights or even turn them off for a moment, but there’s always a reason tied to the story. And it never lasts long.

This is generally not true.

The average escape room is larger than your own living room. Of course, there are exceptions, and sometimes you might briefly move through a narrower passage, but safety and enjoyment always come first.

At DarkPark, you wander through entire buildings, an abandoned hotel, or a mysterious orphanage. Think less like a small room and more like a movie set, where every space is a new chapter in your story.

This is not true.

You’re not stupid. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Not even yourself.

At DarkPark, we focus on people’s talents. We celebrate the differences between individuals and highlight what makes you unique. We want you to have a great time, which is why we help you fully enjoy the game.

Stuck for a moment? That doesn’t mean you’re stupid. It just means you see things in your own unique way. Everyone gets stuck in an escape room sometimes. That’s why we watch along from the control room and occasionally give you subtle hints to help you get back into the flow.

If you walk out afterwards feeling stupid, then we’ve failed. Not you.

Our goal is to help you discover your strength and your unique talents. After all, this is your story!

This is not true.

At DarkPark, we think it’s a shame when people focus only on escaping and forget to enjoy the experience. Sure, it feels great to finish the room on time, but that’s not the goal.

The goal is for you to have a great time, and that’s what we guarantee. We help you experience the adventure as fully as possible, and if that means you don’t quite reach the exit before time runs out, so be it.

It’s a bit of an old idea that escape rooms are only about escaping as fast as possible. What a shame! You’d miss all the beautiful details we’ve worked so hard on. Enjoyment is the keyword!

This is sometimes true, but more often it’s not.

Most escape rooms don’t have an actor at all. Sometimes a creepy atmosphere is created with lights and sound, but as long as you’re only with your friends in the escape room, not much can actually happen.

Occasionally, you’ll find an escape room with an actor, but this is almost always clearly stated beforehand. And in the Netherlands at least, it’s rarely an actor who will chase you. Usually, the actor is on your side, trying to help you progress in the story.

At DarkPark, we will never push you beyond your limits. The advantage of having an actor is that we can respond to what you need and can handle. If we notice you’re uncomfortable, we keep our distance. You can always trust that at DarkPark.

The idea of having an actor in the escape room might scare you, but everyone who has experienced it agrees that it almost always adds huge value.

When in doubt, we say: just go for it!

That is definitely not true and a huge shame, because you’re really missing out!!

What you really mean is: ‘It’s outside my comfort zone.’ That’s okay, of course, but oh, what a shame!

A perfect example are the countless company outings we host:

Moniek was given the responsibility to organize this year’s company outing, and since she loves escape rooms, she booked one for the whole team. Gerrit, Veerle, Joop, and Ottelien have never played an escape room before, so they arrive with long faces and maybe even a bit grumpy. Moniek is the only one excited because she knows what the team is in for.

With some reluctance, the team steps into the escape room. The door closes, and they look around, confused. ‘And this is supposed to be fun?’ mutters Gerrit.

Veerle decides to give it a chance and opens a cabinet. She lets out a little scream. Joop chuckles at that. Meanwhile, Ottelien has discovered a puzzle but hasn’t quite figured it out yet. From a distance, Gerrit calls out that she is doing it wrong. After watching for a while, Gerrit walks over to Ottelien and takes over. It works! A cabinet opens. Without realizing it, Gerrit forgets he was not enthusiastic and dives in with Ottelien on the next challenge. Suddenly, the lights go out, and Joop grabs Veerle, who starts giggling with delight. About an hour later, the team walks out of the escape room with big smiles on their faces. They made it and, against all odds, had an incredibly fun time together!

This is something we see happening at DarkPark every day. An escape room is a magical medium, and if you’ve never tried it, it’s hard to explain.

There’s only one option: you’ll have to give it a try sometime!
