Are you getting everything out of life?
Maybe not a question you'd expect on a website about escape rooms, and yet escape rooms have everything to do with it.
Let's not waste any time and start right away with the biggest question of all. The question of questions. Why are we on this earth? To work? To reproduce? To chase our dreams?
Or are we simply here? Period. Two people loved each other, or had one brief, wild night, and suddenly there we were. No bigger plan, no purpose in life, just one little sperm cell and one little egg cell and suddenly there was another new life. A human being. Someone with dreams and fears, desires and obligations. Someone with the task of figuring out what they're here on this earth to do, and the freedom to choose their own path.
The invisible prison
Is there a reason for any of it? Or are we all just running after the marketing campaigns of the big companies? Drink Coca Cola! Buy an iPhone! Follow as many people as you can on social media, or you won't know what the neighbor had for dinner yesterday! Buy this completely useless and totally unnecessary gadget, or you won't have enough clutter in the house! And so on, and so on.
Fear is a powerful driver. Fear of not belonging, fear of missing out on something, fear that we're not getting everything out of life that's in it. Fear that we're missing something, and precisely because of that, we miss so much.
Without knowing it, we constantly let ourselves be led by our fear. What would life be like if we no longer had any fear? If we were free to simply do what, deep down, we want most of all. If we dared to follow our hearts.
Maybe that's the purpose of our lives. To stop being afraid. To just do it. To be free from the judgments of others, from the stories we've come to believe about what we should do, who we should be, what's expected of us and what we expect of ourselves. To simply be happy.
Actually, it doesn't take that much at all; simply being happy. Only learning to let go of fear. Of everything that holds us in its grip.
Escape Rooms
And so we end up at escape rooms after all. Why do we step into a room that gets locked and let ourselves be scared out of our wits for an hour? Because deep down, we long to be freed from our fears.
The wall we build ourselves
Many people avoid what they're afraid of. They build a wall around themselves and stay far away from anything that could confront them with their inner pain. That's the perfect recipe for a lifetime of unhappiness. Pain, grief and fear that get pushed away always come back, more intense every time. Like a child that wants attention. As long as you keep looking at your phone and ignore the child, it screams louder and louder, calling for attention more and more insistently. The moment you take the time to tune in to the child, the need to be seen disappears and the child stops nagging. It works exactly the same way with our fears. Everything we push away keeps chasing us. The moment we find the courage to look our fear straight in the eye. To feel it all the way through. To accept that it hurts, the fear goes away. We've been through the worst. The fear feels seen, just like the whining child, and can leave our body.
That's why we play scary escape rooms. That's why we get on roller coasters, why we watch horror films, walk through dark forests in the middle of the night, visit a fortune teller at the fair who might have bad news for us, stand on the edge of a cliff to feel the drop, or take part in extreme experiences that make our hearts beat faster.
More than scares and suspense
Maybe you've visited a DarkPark escape room before and felt there was more to it than just jumpscares and fright. That's because the goal we have with everything we build isn't just to make you scream, but to give you the chance to find your freedom again by facing your fears. We want everyone to live a happy life. That's our mission. A life free from fear. The only way to get there is to take it on. To give the fear a moment of attention, and then let it go.
Afterwards, you feel lighter, free, happy.
Anyone who dares to live life that way will notice that life keeps getting lighter. When there are no more walls, no boundaries, no blockages, the only thing left is: freedom. Freedom to do what you want, deep down. Freedom to make your dreams come true. Freedom to simply, plainly be happy.
What do you choose?
And so we come back to the question it all started with: are you getting everything out of life?
Do you hold on to your fear? Do you lay a few more bricks on that wall that's already far too high? Or do you start tearing it down today? It won't be an easy journey, but at the end, real freedom is waiting.
