DarkPark used to be Escape Challenge Delft
One of the very first escape rooms in the Netherlands was built by Escape Challenge Delft. To this day, the escape rooms of Escape Challenge rank among the very best in the world, but the name Escape Challenge Delft has since disappeared to make way for a name that may sound more familiar to you: DarkPark.
From idea to worldwide fame
The escape room phenomenon has grown in a short time into a unique way of going out, but nowhere in the world is the quality as high as in the Netherlands. Not only does the Netherlands have the most escape rooms per square meter, the level of the average Dutch escape room is also far above the global average. That is probably because the bar was set enormously high right from the start by a number of pioneers in our industry. Think of Mama Bazooka, who opened the very first escape room in the Netherlands, but Sherlocked, Logic Locks and of course Escape Challenge Delft also built ambitious and groundbreaking escape rooms right from the start, in stark contrast to the many simple puzzle rooms you still find in other countries to this day.
Since then, more creative entrepreneurs have made their contribution to the developments escape rooms have gone through over the years. We are proud that escape rooms in the Netherlands dominate the world rankings year after year, and that our escape rooms have been part of every top list from the very beginning to this day!
How Escape Challenge Delft turned into DarkPark
From the start, the name Escape Challenge was synonymous with challenging and innovative experiences. It was our way of letting players experience something completely new. In the years that followed, we always tried to push our own limits and kept searching for what an escape room can be. An ambitious attitude, and a path that wasn't always easy.
Over the years we grew further, in ambition as well as in vision. We noticed that the name Escape Challenge no longer covered what we did. We wanted more, to venture further off the beaten track and to innovate, and that called for a new name: DarkPark.
What began as an experiment under the name Escape Challenge Delft grew into a leading brand under the name DarkPark. A brand known internationally for its personal approach and for stories that are seamlessly woven into puzzles. Thanks to our new name, we were no longer tied to what an escape room should be, but created room to decide for ourselves what an escape room could be: a complete immersive world in which escaping is only a small part of the adventure.
The name DarkPark reflects much better what we stand for now: gripping stories, unique atmospheres and unforgettable experiences that completely immerse players. It isn't a race against the clock, but an invitation to step into another world and discover new sides of yourself.
A tribute to Escape Challenge Delft
Although we are proud of what we have achieved under the name DarkPark, we never forget where we came from. Escape Challenge was the story of a young man with an ambitious plan who didn't foresee the consequences when he put his signature on his first lease and started building something that didn't exist yet. That laid the foundation for everything DarkPark is today, and that history remains an important part of our story.
